Bahn, predecessor of the Rhätische bahn (Rhaethian Railway)
began opening up Graubünden, Switserland’s largest kanton
in the southeast. This elaborate DVD production presents
the famous meter gauge trains in majestic mountain scenery
during all seasons. Contemporay fottage showing highlights
of every line in the 245 mi. network is augmented by still
and archive film, some of it dating back to 1927. |

St. Moritz and Tirano, originally opened in 1906 into one
of the most impressive sections of the Rhätische Bahn. Snow,
wind and freezing temperatures make the battle with King
Winter a though one for Rhätische Bahn staff. This film
shows the many faces of a bernina winter between Pontresina
and Poschiavo. Fantastic panoramas of a sunny day between
Ospizio Bernina and Alp Grüm, snow storms and wanderous
images of the Dampf Schneesleuder X-rot 9213 in its line
clearing challenge. |

The Albula line, opened in 1903, must rank among the
top scenic and engineering marvels of the world. The history
and structure of this extraordinary structure is illustrated
with historic sequences as well as contemporary footage.
The line’s centenary year was marked by the Rhätische Bahn
running historic trains over the Albula each weekend. The
Albula Line’s DVD portrait is augmented with special features
on freight traffic, car ferries and the famous Bergrün–Preda
toboggan trains in the winter months. The DVD is interactive
and includes a slide show of the line under construction
and operation in the early years. |
